The Road Forward

Through the Infrastructure, Investment, and Jobs Act (IIJA) of 2021, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, and other federal programs, unprecedented levels of federal funding will be used to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the U.S. economy. Among these programs, there is a new focus on reducing the embodied carbon emissions associated with constructing and maintaining America’s pavements and other infrastructure assets. Under the IRA, $4.5 billion is directed towards quantifying and reducing GHG emissions in the construction materials sector.
